US Open - Sunday

by mhouston 15. June 2008 18:28

Wow!  An injured Tiger and solid playing Lee Westwood in a final pairing!  Who would have guessed Rocco could hold on under that pressure?!  So, it ends with Rocco in at -1, Westwood and Tiger flubbing around with a 3rd shot into 18...both make decent wedges in and have 10+ footers to tie Rocco...Westwood just leaks to the right for a miss...Tiger, of course, makes magic and ties.  18 hole play-off scheduled for Monday (TV time is 1PM EST).  Wow!  Westwood deserves to be in the play-off...it's just too bad.  He and Rocco played the most solid golf of anyone the last four days.  $500 on Tiger tomorrow, any takers ;-)

US Open 2008

by mhouston 14. June 2008 09:46

The first 2 days were crazy.  I can't believe Tiger's last 9 holes on Friday...wow!!!  That's why he's #1 in world ranking points.  Phil was playing okay...sorta fell apart...what's new?!  There are a lot of players in the running, Sat. should be an awesome 'moving day'.  I love the US Open :-)

Teched08 - 'Spring Break for Nerds' ;-P

by mhouston 10. June 2008 12:15

Another excellent year at TechEd!  After all these years, I still enjoy the lengthy, opinionated and inebriated conversations over technologies, implementations, products, etc.

I did make it to a few interesting sessions and spoke to a few 'official' types about various things ASP.Net MVC, Velocity, Unity, Oslo, etc...  The presentation I actually enjoyed the most was Andrew Connell's 'Don't be a Tool...' SharePoint dev talk...really good stuff from an outstanding presenter.  I was just happy to hear someone actually tell developers to be developers again and quit whining...this could turn in to a <rant/>...I'll stop now.

As usual, the most interesting stuff happens after hours ;-P  Every year I say I'm going to capture more evidence, but I always forget to take pictures...here's the few I ended up with this year.  It was great to see all my old friends and meet quite a few new ones.  I love all of you nerds.  Big props to the Fl crew for organizing the ]inbetween[ event.  And oh, btw, before I forget....SHAREPOINT NATION!!!

The annual Barren River Golf Trip

by mhouston 17. May 2008 08:12

Great fun!  Again, these old farts like to get up too early in the morning, so I really couldn't pay attention enough to actually remember to take photos...oh well...here's what I did get...

Immelman wins the Masters 2008

by mhouston 13. April 2008 16:57

Immelman held it together and no one else could catch up.  It was a good Masters.

The Masters 2008

by mhouston 12. April 2008 09:24

Nothing quite like the Masters!  This is, by far, my personal favorite of the majors.

Update for anyone not paying attention:

  • Tiger is flubbing really bad (-1)
  • Phil is playing good (-5)
  • Immelman is leading (-8), but won’t win
  • Snedeker is alone in 2nd (-7) and just might pull off an upset over the weekend.

Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Jesus and Socrates and Luther and Copernicus and Galileo and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh.
